Kelsey Brookes Goes to Berlin

RVCA’s Artist Network Program will soon have another pin on the ever-expanding map. Kelsey Brookes, Revok and Mark “The Cobrasnake” are headed to Berlin this July for a visit to Lodown Gallery. Kelsey promises to keep us up to speed on his blog, so stay tuned for more adventures from ANP.

USA Today

The Spanyards have always sported a healthy appreciation for American art, and “USA Today” proves that they have done their homework. This exposition/installation currently touring Spain is organized by Contemporanea in collaboration with RVCA to catalog the most progressive artists of the past decade.

Aiming to represent the descendants of Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, this show is a collection of art influenced by skateboarding, hip hop, punk, and grafitti culture. The lineup is hot: Shepard Fairey, Kelsey Brookes, Thomas Campbell, Jim Houser, Spike Jones, Matt Leines, Jim Houser, Barry McGee, Jeff Soto, Ed Templeton, Cheryl Dunn and more.

If only we could jet set on over to Badajoz, Spain before July 8th, we would witness a massive collection of the art that keeps our blood pumping.

Travel Diary: Kelsey Brookes in Japan

RVCA’s Artist Network Program has many benefits, one of which being company trips to far off lands. Kelsey Brookes took advantage of RVCA’s current excursion to Japan, and we like the new drawings he has produced abroad. The travels are dutifully recorded on Kelsey’s blog:

“RVCA asked me to go to Japan and paint at something called the Green Room Festival. Traveling and painting are 2 of my top 3 favorite things to do in the world (surfing is the other), so when ever I get the chance to combine 2 of the top 3 I do it.” -Kelsey Brookes

Scion Swings by San Jose

Us San Franciscans have felt very left out of Scion’s latest project touring the country: Installation 5. Although an exhibition isn’t coming all the way to our doorstep, it’s a train ride away: San Jose opens its doors to Scion this Friday, June 5th. We are proud to see many White Walls and Shooting Gallery artists represented in this self portrait series including Blek le Rat, AJ Fosik, Ron English, and Kelsey Brookes. To celebrate Scion’s first stop on the West Coast, DJ Basura will be providing entertainment at the opening event. Judging by these shots of NYC’s opening, Scion knows how to throw a grand party.

Kelsey Brookes Reps San Diego

Sunny San Diego isnt’ just a place to sip Corona and hang ten. It’s also a city teeming with artists, despite the eclipsing hype of nearby Los Angeles. Quint Contemporary Art has gathered a group of 50 San Diego artists to show just what this beach city is really made of. “Homing In” features local artists like Kelsey Brookes, David Adey, Kim MacConnel, Tom Driscoll and more; so grab your sandals and head toward the border.
