Kelsey Brookes’ studio is filled to the brim with new paintings for his solo show at Quint Gallery this month. This contemporary space is located in San Diego County’s beautiful city of La Jolla. The opening reception will include live music by The Dabbers and Lion Cut, so it should be a good time for all the lucky folks down south.
Opening Reception: November 20, 2009, 6-8pm
Runs through Saturday, December 19, 2009
“Below are some studio shots. I love the feel of the studio right before a show. The space is cramped with paintings and half finished ideas…..good things happening everywhere. It definitely feels like things are starting to come together after 9 months of working. Its a good feeling.”
Kelsey Brooks confronts us with a pivotal question of success or failure with the release of his new print set. Sink or Swim presents inverse images in Kelsey’s signature pastel colors and quilt-like patterns, but with a distinct emotional charge. The print is 20x20in in an edition of 100, signed and numbered. For more information see Kelsey’s site.
As the lines between fine art and commercial design blur, progressive companies like Scion support some of our favorite artists through Installation 5: Self Portraits. Scion has done their homework, assembling a capable lineup: Blek le Rat, AJ Fosik, Andrew Shoultz, Ron English, Will Barras, Usugrow, Kelsey Brookes and many more. Being the first year that video is recognized in the Installation Art Tour, we are eager to see how these artists take advantage of the medium. Among nine stops total, the show is currently en route to New York (opening May 7th). For more information, consult Juxtapoz.
Hailing from San Diego, Kelsey Brookes sports sunbleached locks and several major upcoming shows. Rumor has it that Kelsey may be appearing soon on the White Walls calendar, so we are excited to see his recent studio visit with Sezio. See what he’s up to at Sezio.com to hear his thoughts on podcasts, quilt making, and the allure of sunny San Diego.
